At coco, we recognize that sustainability must be at the core of the film industry's future. Therefore, we commit to further actions to increase our sustainability in the following areas:

1. Event Organisation Practices:

  • exclusively choosing locations within walking distance and close proximity to each other in Cottbus to immediately reduce transportation needs and emissions,
  • prioritising train travel and implementation of a corresponding travel policy for team members as well as invited guests and participants (see below)
  • selecting local, fully vegetarian catering and banning single-use cups/dishes at our locations,
  • accommodating team members, guests, and invited participants in hotels with sustainability certifications (our partner hotels are green certified with GreeSign),
  • creating a timeframe concentrated program that maximises the impact of the event while minimising its environmental footprint,
  • increasing the use of sustainable materials for printed advertising, and not producing unnecessary materials by replacing them with re-usable or digital alternatives — such as a fully digital programme overview or an exclusively digital pitchbook,
  • actively seeking out rental or local purchasing solutions to avoid shipping and reduce emissions associated with transportation.

2. Internal Organisation Practices:

  • implementing remote office practices to reduce transportation and space rental needs,
  • limiting unnecessary video conferencing or mass e-mailing,
  • prioritising Ecosia as the search engine, which is known for its commitment to sustainability and planting trees,
  • using a single digital communication channel via Slack as well as energy-efficient cloud storage on Dropbox, both companies committed to carbon neutral operations by 2030,
  • paperless project documentation and conscientious archiving to avoid digital clutter,
  • prioritising the wellbeing of the team members.

3. Social Sustainability:

  • aim to promote equality and both cultural and gender diversity by taking these aspects into account during programme selection, commissioning, and invitations,
  • serving fairly produced and traded products – coffee, rice, tea, chocolate – together with our caterers.

4. Sustainable Growth:

  • aim to maintain the size of the event onsite at its current numbers as part of its strategy,
  • prioritising the quality of participants over quantity and seek out individuals and projects that align with our commitment to sustainability and diversity,
  • recognising that sustainability is a shared responsibility and working with our partners to develop and implement sustainable market practices,
  • providing participants with the opportunity to submit online feedback regarding the event’s sustainability practices.

Note on Travel
As part of our commitment to reducing travel-related emissions and moving toward more sustainable practices, coco follows the policy that flight costs will not be reimbursed for employees, invited guests, or participants if the same route can be reasonably traveled by train in under six hours.
Furthermore, we warmly encourage all our guests and visitors to choose climate-friendly travel options whenever possible—such as traveling to Cottbus by train. Your support helps us take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future.

We believe that by implementing these principles, coco can help pave the way towards sustainable development in the film industry. Join us in taking action towards a more sustainable future.
